Working effortlessly with facing & hems

Facing and Hems are important finishing elements of every garment. PolyPattern provides features to make all kinds of facings and hems super easy! We have prepared 3 examples for you:

Here’s the first one:

  1. We begin by creating a cut line which starts from a point on the bottom hemline and ends on the shoulder line at a distance exactly 4 centimeters from the shoulder point.

  2. Then we smooth that line and change the curve to give it the shape we want.

  3. Lastly, we choose “Cut Facing”.

And there it is, our separate facing pattern!

For a pure parallel facing, first just select the back neckline, then the Specify Facing command, and enter 4 centimeters. We again choose “Cut Facing” to get the facing pattern.

That’s it! For this third example watch closely:

  1. We begin by making a motion line parallel to the sleeve edge and then use the “Cut Line” tool and snap to a distance of 4 centimeters.

  2. Using the parallel snap in combination with the Length input box, we draw a line that is 12 centimeters long.

  3. Then, we snap our next click to a distance of 15 centimeters from the sleeve hem. We drew this shape because we want our folded facing to unfold right  up to this cut line.

  4. Lastly, all we have to do now is select the outer edge and then the Hem command.

Pretty neat, right? These were just a few of the ways we can work with facings and hems. The possibilities are endless!
